Wins for Pirates, Kobs, Warriors, Heathens and Mongers on opening weekend

Reigning Premiership champions, Black Pirates, opened their title defense with a commanding 50-09 in Walukuba, as did Kobs, Warriors, Heathens and Mongers who started their campaigns on winning notes.

Black Pirates ran in eight tries against newly promoted Walukuba Barbarians away in Walukuba at the Abel Dhaira Memorial Stadium through Balagadde Kelvin(2), Richard Odokere, David Busingye, Didi Ruhweza, Dennis Etuket, Baron Kasozi, and Mutesasira Timothy while Barbarians could only reply with three penalties. Pirates were notably without Isaac Massa, haruna Muhammad, Desire Ayera, William Nkore and Raymond Emazni who were away on national duty.

With four debutantes in there i.e. Josiah Sempeke, Isaac Mwesigwa, Ortega Daniel and Mark Semakula, Betway Kobs beat Jinja Hippos for 10 tries without a reply. Ortega Daniel marked his debut with a try. The try scorers included Ortega, Kasito, Kimono, Seruwagi, Brian Asaba.

In the Legends derby, DusuPay Warriors ran over Shell Rimula Rhinos winning 23-07. Warriors were first on the score board through Kinyai. The Rhinso responded there and then after David Otwi collected from a charge down to score the game’s first try. The rest of the game was a Warriors showcase as they landed two more penalties and two converted tries though Allan Omoding to win 23-07 at full time.

Elsewhere, Hima Cement Heathens came out on top against Toyota Buffaloes in a less heated Kyadondo derby winning 34-09, as Plascon Mongers collected a win over MRI Rams with a 19-00 win.
