Wins for all top seeds except Jinja Hippos

The Uganda Cup opening round is now behind us and their have been humongous wins for all the top seeded eight, except for the Jinja based Hippos.

JInja Hippos were hosted in Makerere by bthe Rams for the first game of the Uganda Cup. The game lived up to it’s billing with end-to-end action. The Rams opened the scoring through an early try from Edmond Karl. They’d later get another through Robert Anguzu, with Hippos managing a penalty to end the half.

The Hippos came back in the second half with free flowing rugby, and managed to score two tries, through Maxwell Ebong and led the game at some point, 17-15. Rams sneaked in a late try and won it 20-17 to advance to the quarters while Hippos drop to the shield.

The second game at Makerere saw Toyota Buffaloes visit Impis. Buffaloes opened the scoring through Aziz’s boot with a penalty before the silky Innocent Gwoktho scored right below the posts for the game’s first try. Aziz was back again with the kick for full points. Impis managed to get on the scoreboard through a Ssebuliba Syrus penalty. A lapse in Impis 5 gifted Aziz with an easy try as he picked up on a ball knocked forward and literally stretched to score Buffaloes second try, converting to push game to 17-03 in Buffaloes favor by halftime.

The flood gates were let open in the second half as the Buffaloes ran in 4 unanswered tries, converting two of those while playing some fancy offloading rugby with Gwoktho getting his second, and Aita Philip getting in on the action too. The game would end 41-07 in the visitors favor.
