With all the money that was splashed out onto Power by Betway, one would think that by now, they would be a force to reckon with in the Uganda National Basketball League.
This has however not been the case as the 5 times champions have found themselves struggling to find consistency in winning games with a fan making a joke that Power can’t buy themselves a basket.
Before the start of the season, Betway Power brought in new players like Libe Makala, Samuel Agutu, Geofrey Soro and all these were to give Power a competitive edge in the league but they have failed to create a spark.
The big question that most fans are asking themselves is why a team so packed with talent and experience is failing to get the wins that they should be.
Power have a hierarchy problem, everyone wants to be a leader in that team and that only means that everyone is playing as an individual and not playing as a collective unit.
Every single player wants to do everything on the court rather than focus on using their strengths so that the rest of the team can take advantage of that and collect the wins.
Point Guard Sebatindira Fahmy always brings leadership and organization into this side whenever he is thrown in. The only issue is that he is given little playing time.
Their defensive set up is one that has been rotated all season and we understand that given that majority of these are new players, there is a need to see how best they can be coming into the system.
However, that seems to be taking longer than imagined and it is biting into the progress of the team without them even realizing it.
Coach Lando will need to find a way of identifying one or two systems of play because many a times, he is always making many technical changes in the game even when the team seems to have understood their opponents.
If the Betway Power are to challenge for this season’s championship, they will need to address the aspects of leadership, their defense and finding one or two styles of play per each game.
