Pius Wangi was the hero for SC Villa’s 2-1 victory over Paidha in a StarTimes Uganda Premier League game played at Namboole.
The forward scored a brace to give Villa maximum points as the side made it two wins from as many games.
Wangi’s goals came in the first stanza – The former Vipers player picked a loose ball to squeezed a short for the opening goal.
Wangi later doubled the advantage when he directed Charles Lwanga’s low cross into the roof.
Dickens Okwir brought one back for the Zombo based club in the second stanza but the side missed some chances and hence failed to Mount a come back.
James Wambede was denied by the crossbar inside the first half and later saw his effort go over when he had a second chance on goal after a well orchestrated build up.
Substitute Andrew Kidega also missed a clear chance to level for the visitors as Paidha tried to punish a reckless Villa who had removed a foot off the pedal.
The victory sends Villa to 11th place, above old rivals and fellow strugglers Express FC – The two sides are level on points (21).
This was Villa’s fourth win of the season from 19 attempts. The reverse fixture with Paidha had ended goalless in Arua.
Paidha, who lost their 12th game, remain at the foot of the table with nine points and their chances to beat the drop continue to remain slim.
