UPL: Mbowa On Target As URA Tax Villa

Saturday, February 2
URA FC 1-0 SC Villa

URA FC dented SC Villa’s relegation fight with a 1-0 victory in a StarTimes Uganda Premier League game played at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

Patrick Paul Mbowa directed a powerful header into the top off Saidi Kyeyune’s corner inside the first stanza.

The hosts who missed Head Coach Sam Ssimbwa as the tactician is serving his four game ban, lost Goalkeeper Alitho James and Captain Shafic Kagimu to injury but held on for their fifth win of the season.

Villa gave three new signings Saidi Keni, Alishe Asuman and Suleiman Majanjaro but the whole team couldn’t mount a formidable fight before referee Waiswa Muzamir put an end to an entertaining showdown.

Ashraf Mandela headed over Mike Sserumaga’s lofty delivery, Bashir Mutanda’s attempt from a distance was easily collected by Alitho James as Villa’s surge didn’t produce any fruit.

URA lost Alitho to injury, replaced by Nafian Alionzo and the stopper was called into action later on to deny Habib Kavuma at close range.

URA who looked a dull side in the second stanza, had Moses Sseruyide’s rocket rattle the crossbar and Shafic Kagimu earlier had his effort from a loose ball go an inch wide.

The Victory send URA to fifth with 25 points as Villa remains on 14 points, in 13th position.
