UPL: Mbarara Fight Back To Hold Vipers

Sunday, January 27
SC Vipers 1-1 Mbarara City

Mbarara City came from down to snatch a point off unbeaten SC Vipers in the last game of the first round of the Uganda Premier League.

Tito Okello brushed in Mzee Dan Sserunkuma’s way who bundled in a rocket into the roof for Vipers’ opener in the 15th minute.

Paul Mucureezi finished off Steven Otieno’s pass from close range in a good build up play, in the 52nd minute of the game.

Vipers, who gave Henry Katongole his debut since joining the Kitende team from Villa, looked in control in the early stanza but couldn’t take care of the business.

Innocent Wafula failed to capitalise on a misplaced pass at the back, ran free on goal but his assist was later blocked.

Mzee Sserunkuma taped Tito’s low delivery over the bar, and Moses Waiswa also had his free kick kept out for a corner.

The Visitors also threatened Vipers’ unbeaten streak which has now gone to 32 games, but looked dull in front of the goal mouth.

Ibrahim Orit and IIvan Eyam both had their efforts easily collected by Fabien Mutombora.

Vipers end the first round in second place on the 16 team log, five points below leaders KCCA FC. They have won eight games, seven draws and lost none.

The Ankole Lions remain in third – 8 Wins, 4 draws and 3 losses. They have collected 28 points, three below Vipers.

Vipers will start the second round at home against Kirinya Jinja SS on February 1. Mbarara will host KCCA at Kakyeka on January 31.
