UPL: Late Sserunkuma Penalty Sinks Express

Express FC suffered a painful loss to hosts Tooro United in a StarTimes Uganda Premier League encounter played at Buhinga Stadium in Fort Portal.

Tooro edged the Red Eagles 1-0 to deny Express FC a double. Kefa Kisala’s side won the reverse fixture 2-0 at Betway Muteesa II Stadium.

Simon Sserunkuma, facing his former masters, scored from the spot, after Allan Kayiwa was brought down in the area by Disan Galiwango with five minutes left on normal time.

Express FC who gave Steven Ocholit a debut before he was replaced by another debutant in the second half Brian Umony, will rue missed chances.

Eric Kambale and Michael Birungi were both denied by Joel Mutakubya inside the first stanza. Badru Nsubuga also fired wide with a goal at his mercy.

This is the fifth loss for Express FC who slip to eighth with 21 points from sixteen games. Express has won five and drawn six.

The victory elevates Tooro way up sixth with 23 points. This was the sixth win for Coach Wasswa Bbosa’s charges.

Next for Express is a home game against Police FC, a team they beat in the first round.

Tooro will take a trip across the new Nile Bridge to face Kirinya Jinja SS at the Mighty Arena on February 5.
