SC Vipers Vs Mbarara City, 4:00 PM
(St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende)
Henry Katongole is set for Vipers debut as his side take on Mbarara City in the came that officially closes the first round of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
Katongole was on bench as Vipers were held to a one all draw on Friday against URA FC in Mandela National Stadium.
With Halid Lwaliwa ruled out due because of a rib injury, this may serve as a big opportunity for the former SC Villa player to feature.
The lanky centre back has been frustrated since joining the Club and he is rumoured to be weighing on an offer to offer join Abdallah Mubiru’s Police FC.
Tom Masiko and Bashir Asiku have been sidelined, Vipers official website has confirmed the development.
Vipers Out To Make Amends
Vipers’ dream to reach the CAF Champions or Confederation cup group stages have not come to fruition, and the club will once again begin from scratch. They have now turned their focus to achieving local triumph.
After failing to pick maximum points against URA FC on Friday, Vipers are now six points behind leaders KCCA FC and will look to close the gap to just three points with a victory on Sunday.
Only three points separate Vipers and third placed Mbarara City and the latter can end the first round in second with a two goal victory.
Only URA (6) has conceded the less goals than Vipers (9) in the league so far.
Vipers are still unbeaten in the league, a record that stretches back to 2017. 33 games without a loss.
The Ankole Lions have won once on the road, and their four goals playing away, is the least among the teams in the top half of the table.
Mbarara are yet to beat Vipers in the league. This will be the third meeting – Vipers won 1-0 in Mbarara and 2-0 at Kitende last season.
