UPL: Ibrahim Juma Stars As Nyamityobora Stun Police

Tuesday, January 29
Police FC 1-4 Nyamityobora
(StarTimes Stadium – Lugogo)

Nyamityobora got off the mark in the second round with a commanding 4-1 away win against hosts Police in a league game played at StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo.

Ibrahim ‘Dada’ Juma was the hero of the day – He scored a brace and got involved in the other two as the visitors picked their first win on the road.

Arafat Galiwango scored for a wasteful and awful Police team that were clear favourites coming into the game. Abdullah Mubiru’s charges had who won the reverse fixture 2-1 away in Kakyeka.

Coach Asaph Mwebaze named three of his eight new signings in the starting eleven, Denis Otim John Sserunjogi and Fred Mayindi, and the trio didn’t disappoint.

Police FC failed to take care of their chances with Juma Balinya who was released by Ronald Nyanzi, beat the keeper but his effort, with an empty net goes an inch wide as early as the eighth minute.

Both Balinya and Odong also failed to tap in at point blank range as a beautiful low delivery went begging.

Ibrahim Juma also missed one for Nyamityobora late in the second half when he left the Keeper crawling only for his attempt to be cleared away.

The Goal Rampage

The Abanyakare went in the lead in the 22nd minute when Juma’s rocket ricocheted off the post to hit Devis Mutebi before crossing the line.

He was involved in the other when Mutebi spilled his effort from the left flank for Damien Nakalema to tap in from close range.

Juma put the game beyond Police’s reach when he controlled a long ball from Ibrahim Pengere before getting Sadat Kyambadde out of his way to fire at the bottom corner to take a 3-0 lead at halftime.

Arafat Galiwango headed home to pull one back for the peace keepers before Juma looped over Mutebi for the fourth.

The victory sends Nyamityobora to 12 points but remains in the red zone. This was the third win for Nyamityobora overall from 16 games. They had earlier beaten up on Mbarara and Ndejje University.

Next for Nyamityobora is a home game against Mbarara City as Police will look to bounce back against Express FC at Betway Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku.
