Uganda Cup: Wakiso Giants Oust Tooro United On Penalties

Big League side Wakiso Giants punched above weight to eliminate top flight team Tooro United out of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

Following a goalless draw, Wakiso needed shootouts, winning 4-2 to reach quarter finals on their first attempt.

Ivan Mutumba kept out Isa Mubiru’s penalty before John Toki Byamukama’s kick rattled the crossbar to ignite wild celebrations at Kyabazinga Stadium in Bugembe, Jinja.

Ivan Kiweewa, Isaac Ntege, James Kasibante and Hassan Wasswa Dazo scored the panalties for Ibrahim Kirya’s side.

Wakiso had eliminated Vision FC by forfeiture on round of 64 and Kireka United on round of 32 via penalties.

To reach this stage, Tooro United had eased past Entebbe before eliminating holders KCCA FC at round of 64 and 32 respectively.

Tooro United will leave Bugembe disappointed after missing the best chances on the day with Godfrey Lwesibwa in staring role.

Wakiso Fans and Officials into frenzy celebrations

The former Villa forward got Hassan Wasswa Dazo out of his way in the 16th minute but his attempt on goal was far and wide.

Mahad Yaya came close in the second half but was denied with by the crossbar.

Willy Kavuma shot over the bar from close range, Allan Kayiwa had his attempt blocked before Lwesibawa’s resultant side foot volley was easily collected by Mutumba.

Wakiso looked a threat in set pieces but couldn’t find a break through as Karim Ndugwa lacked enough supply.
