Tooro United 1-1 KCCA FC
(Tooro win 3-1 on penalties)
Tooro United piled more misery onto KCCA FC with another Cup elimination.
Mike Mutebi’s charges lost to Tooro United 3-1 in penalty shootouts at the round of 32 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.
The blow comes just two days after the Lugogo based side failed to reach the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup following a 3-2 aggregate loss to Congo’s AS Otoho.
In the game proper, the defending Uganda Cup champions for a second year running led courtesy of Patrick Kaddu’s strike in the 51st minute when he looped past Joel Mutakubya in goal to celebrate with his trademark dance.
Allan Kayiwa levelled matters in the 72nd minute for the hosts when he poked in after the keeper had spilled the earlier free kick in the striker’s way to send the fans into wild celebrations at a packed Buhinga Stadium.
The game ended one all in normal time before Tooro edged the tie 3-1 in shootouts.
KCCA captain Timothy Denis Awany fired his penalty way over the bar, Muzamir Mutyaba scored his effort but Joel Mutakubya kept out Hassan Musana and Allan Okello’s penalty kicks.
Isa Mubiru, Kawooya and Willy Kavuma scored their penalties for Wasswa Bbosa’s charges, to send the side to the round of 16.
It should be noted KCCA eliminated Tooro via penalty shootouts last season at the round of 16. The club had beaten up on the Tooro outfits 2-1 in the league opener this season.
