Mbarara city will seek to reach the Uganda Cup round of 16 when they take on BUL FC at Njeru in one of the five games that are to be played on Wednesday.

The tie is one of the three games that paired together all Premier League clubs at the round of 32 – Kirinya 0-1 Onduparaka (on Friday) and Tooro United Vs KCCA FC (Jan 22) are the other two pairings.

It should be noted that at round of 64, Mbarara City FC overcame fellow Uganda Premier League Side Maroons FC.

The side needed heroics from their custodian Ali Kimera who, after the game ended goalless, saved two penalties and scored the decisive penalty to win the shootouts, 4-3.

Mbarara’s head Coach Charles Livingstone Mbabazi will miss central defender Rashid Muhammad due to a back injury he sustained against his former club Onduparaka.

The team will also miss Striker Karim Ndugwa who returned to Parent club Wakiso Giants.

The Ankole Lions will seek to bury their poor record on the road this season. They have one win, two draws and three losses in their league travels so far.

However, the visitors are yet to lose against BUL FC: Paul Mucureezi scored the lone goal as Mbarara edged BUL 1&0 in Kakyeka in the league this season.

Mbarara also defeated BUL 2-1 in Kakyeeka after the sides had shared spoils in the reverse fixture at Kakindu Stadium.

Mbarara are on a six game unbeaten run in all competitions since losing 3-1 to Police FC in the league, on November 30 last year.

Last season, Mbarara were eliminated at the round of 16 stage by lower league side Kansai Plascon with a 3-0 humiliating defeat at Kakyeka.

BUL on the other hand, are winless in their last games at Njeru – lost 1-2 to KCCA and drew two all with Nyamityobora.

BUL ousted Big League side Mbale Kataka FC 2-1 at the round of 64. It should be remembered that BUL were eliminated by KJT last season.
