The title race reaches the penultimate round of proceedings with only two more weekends to play – 160 minutes of judgement that will seem like eternity to the Betway Kobs and the Hima cement Heathens.
After last weekend, the rankings witnessed a switch – one that couldn’t have come at a perfect time for the Kyadondo based Heathens; their thumping of Walukuba and the Kobs loss put Heathens two points clear of the 2nd placed Blue Army. The Green Machine has two home games to play against Rams and Warriors – fate in your own hands at your own backyard is the perfect way to seal the title.
Kobs on the other hand will still be kicking themselves for that loss to the Pirates , only their 2nd loss of the campaign but one that had so much magnitude on the title race. Kobs face the Warriors and Rhinos ; they will be slightly dejected that the race isn’t in their hands but need to keep believing till the final whistle – everything is possible in sport , all they need is an upset at Kyadondo on one of the two weekends and business will be restored.
One can call it wishful thinking but the mark of a champion is flirting with luck till the curtains close. For that matter, Fred Mudoola and Edmund Tumusiime, who have guided the Kobs ship thus far, will be putting out their strongest team to ensure maximum points on the table and the points difference.
It is the end of the road for the sevens stars who are to feature in Hong Kong; no more league action for them as decreed by the national sevens management in a bid to beware of any injuries – the big two will be missing a couple of house hold names who have been instrumental for them, this could prove to be tricky for both sides.
Talisman Michael Wokorach will not be available for selection going forward which leaves Heathens with a need to improvise on how to fill such a gaping gap from a man. Kobs will most likely be without the services of Joseph Aredo, Justin Kimono, Adrian Kasito, James Ijongat and Ian Munyani who are all vying for that final ticket to Hong Kong . These are holes in the Blue army set up and will definitely be a test of their depth – one thing is for sure, the title race isn’t done yet.
