SportPesa Cup Semis
Bandari FC (Kenya) 2-1 Simba SC (Tanzania)
Kariobangi Sharks (Kenya) 0-0 Mbao FC (Tanzania)
*Sharks won 6-5 on penalties

Uganda’s pacey forward William Wadri was on target as Kenya’s Bandari stunned Tanzania’s Simba to reach the finals of the SportPesa Cup.

Wadri, formerly at Police FC, KCCA FC and SC Vipers, scored from the spot before Wilberforce Lugogo completed a comeback as the debutants eliminated the favourites with a 2-1 victory.

Four Uganda players featured in a hotly contested semi final at Dar es Salaam National Stadium – Wadri and Fred Nkata for Bandari, and
Emmanuel Okwi (who started from the bench) and Murushid Jjuuko for Simba.

Winner between Bandari and Kariobangi Sharks in the Finals on Sunday, will get a chance to play English Premier League side Everton FC.

Bandari Outlast Simba

After eliminating two time defending Champions Gor Mahia – with Okwi on target – Simba were strong favourites to win the cup on home soil. The side had lost to Gor in last year’s final.

However, Bandari was not going to be a walkover, after the side had proved to be a hard nut to crack when they ejected Singida FC with Wadri scoring the lone goal, from the spot on Tuesday.

In the game proper, after plenty of wasted opportunities, hot cake Meddie Kagere scored at the stroke of halftime to give Simba an halftime lead.

Kagere went free after Yassin Muzamir’s through ball to bundle in a rocket to beat Kenya’s shot stopper Farouk Shikhalo.

Okwi was introduced in at the restart as Simba went all out to double their advantage, but they didn’t.

Wadri levelled matters from the spot after Hassan Dilunga was brought down in the area, his second penalty in the tourney.

Lugogo made it two for Bandari in the 73rd minute after Shikhalo had kept out Dilunga’s effort, and the Kenyans could later hold on to win.
