SportPesa Cup: George Abege’s Kariobangi Sharks Crowned Champions

 

George Abege’s Kariobangi Sharks were on Sunday crowned the Champions of the third edition of the SportPesa Cup in Dar es Salaam.

Abege, formerly at Gulu University, Maroons and Victoria University, led the front line for the Champions elect.

The Kenyan side beat up on fellow country club Bandari FC that features Ugandan duo Fred Nkata and William Wadri 1-0 in a pulsating affair.

Forward Harrison Mwendwa’s goal was all that could separate the two sides. Mwendha was freed by Duke Abuya’s assist before slotting home.

US dollars 30,000 while beaten finalists Bandari FC were awarded with US Dollars 10,000.

Abege’s Sharks have consequently booked a ticket to rub shoulders with English Premier League club Everton FC in an international friendly which will be played later this year.

Emmanuel Okwi and Murushid Jjuuko’s Simba (Tanzania) finished third after edging Mbao FC in penalties.

This is was the third edition of the tournament – Gor Mahia had won the previous two.
