The local rugby community is still in amazement/shock (depending on where your allegiance lies) after a very pulsating Kobs – Pirates clash that squandered the Betway Kobs’ title chances and blew the title race wide open with two games to go.
During the same weekend, there was a change at the top of the table after Heathens seized the opportunity with a 74-03 drubbing of lowly side; Walukuba Barbarians, going to 71 points, three ahead of the Kobs.
Anyway back to the gist of the matter; at half time, it was 27-00 to the Pirates with many thinking that we just might see Kobs concede 50 points, credit to them though for a spirited second half that kept Pirates at bay – the Sea robbers could only manage 3 points while Kobs got 14 points for their hustle. Final score : Kobs 14-30 Pirates.
There was a lot to play for in the encounter but what we didn’t know was that Pirates were riled up by a certain banter during the course of the week when one of the Kobs players called Pirates home ground, “Queens Park” along with a promise to humble the Sea Robbers at Legends. This one Kobs player, whose name we are still trying to find, single handedly made life hard for his team. The Pirates came out like a swarm of bees whose hive had been tampered with and the results were mind boggling.
The effects of that loss have had the most ripples in any rugby match up for quite a while and with this social media era, a lot was said – here are some of the best remarks from the aftermath of Kobs vs Pirates;
