SMACK and Namilyango set to renew 100 year old rivalry

St Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK) and Namilyango College are set to renew their 100 year rivalry when the two giants face-off in a schools rugby final.

After seven weeks of rugby, it is now between SMACK and Namilyango to determine who the best at Schools rugby is.

Namilyango and SMACK being two of the oldest post-primary institutions in the country have been going neck-to-neck in different fields and their encounters in rugby have come to be an occasion not to be missed.

Between them, they have won 13 titles with Namilyango in the lion’s share end with 11 while SMACK have only two, winning their most recent in Namilyango’s backyard.

“I know everyone is looking at Namilyango’s record of 11 titles, but the boys in SMACK are ready and will come only to win,” said Ivan Magomu, assistant coach of SMACK, who also happened to play, captain and win the title at both SMACK and Namilyango.

Namilyango College swept Group A, winning all four games, two against Kings College Budo and two against London College of St Lawrence. St Mary’s College Kisubi, as well, won four group games i.e. two against MACOS and two against Light Academy.

The Ngonians defeated MACOS 24-03 in the semi-final as the Smackists eased past Kings College Budo 29-07 on the back of a bullish performance from Captain Ahumuza Chekie.

Play makers from both ends will be uder the scope to help their schools to glory i.e Opio Ezekiel for Namilyango College and Musoke Calvin for St Mary’s College Kisubi.

SMACK and Namilyango will meet in two age grade finals on the day, i.e U15 and U20 to add icing to the cake.

Namilyango College will go against Kings College Budo in the U17 final after MACOS failed to honor their postponed semi-final fixture with the latter.
