Semwami, Okia, Ofoywroth and Ochen to feature for Quins in Kenya Cup opener

Ugandan flyer Solomon Okia will start at full back for the Kenya Harlequins and as deputy captain as the Nairobi based side take on Stanbic Mwamba in the opening round of the Kenya Cup.

Okia will play alongside familiar Ugandan faces in Daudi Semwami, Aaron Ofoywroth and Jasper Ochen. Daudi “Muscle” who has solidified his spot in the Quins backline the past three months will start on the blindside wing, as Aaron ofoywroth will be in the familiar scrum half position. Jasper “Bascut” Ochen who until the end of September  was with the Shell Rimula Rhinos, will have to wait and make his Quins debut off the bench.

In their ranks, Quins have two other debutantes in Matt Wanjia, who will start as fly-half against his former side and openside winger Aluda Beda who followed Quins coach Cardovillis from Kabras Sugar.

The Quins skinned Mwamba in last year’s encounter in early December, winning 48-16 in a game where Ronald Musajja, who is no longer with the harlequins scored a try.

“Mwamba play some fluid, running rugby. They will be looking to avenge the Floodies plate final defeat to us. We just need to focus on our patterns,” said Cardovillis to Ragahouse.

The Quins-Mwamba game was moved to Sunday 4pm due to the burial of former Quins star David ‘Madilu’ Gitau. Last season’s meeting between Quins and Mwamba on matchday 3 saw Quins win 48-16 at RFUEA.
