Safari 7s : Aredo and Massa to lead Uganda Sevens

After headaches in selections and balance of opportunities, Uganda Sevens coaches Tolbert Onyango and Edgar Lemerigar have named the Ugandan squads to take part in the Safari 7s this weekend in Nairobi.

Uganda will be represented by two teams in the Safari 7s and the first team will be captained by Betway Kobs utility back, Joseph Aredo. Joseph returns to the national 7s duty fold having last featured in the Commonwealth games in Australia earlier in the year. Joseph will be assisted by Black Pirates minister of defense, Isaac Massa. Massa has been on the up as regards national 7s duty having made the university side in Namibia. From there, he was on the invitational side at Christie before making the final team that was to defend Uganda’s Africa’s crown in Tunisia.

The emerging Uganda sevens side will be led by Toyota Buffaloes quick scrum half Stephen “Buju” Alul who will be assisted Black Pirates utility back Raymond Emanzi. Alul impressed the Sevens selection team on his outing for the Christie 7s in September prompting another call-up and added skipper duties. Raymond’s star, just like Massa, has been on the rise having impressed the selection team in the recently concluded Uganda Cup as a mainstay Pirates back-liner.

The teams will be under the watchful eyes of two-time African champion Tolbert Onyango and Edgar Lemerigar.

The Toyota Buffaloes have contributed to the traveling contingent with 6 players, led by their captain, Alul Stephen. The Black Pirates have been represented by 5, Jinja Hippos with 4, Kobs with 3, Heathens with 3, Mongers with 1 and Kenya Harlequins with 2.
