The Rugby  Cranes Sevens outfit were in for a nasty drubbing at the hands of Samoa, losing 45-07 in their first ever World Cup appearance in the pre-round of 16 in San Francisco.

The game was lopsided to Samoa who ran in seven tries on course to winning with Uganda suffering a sin bin to skipper Michael Wokorach for some during the game. Michael would later make up for this glitch by powering through Samoa’s almost airtight defense to score the Cranes first ever five pointer at the world cup. Kabras Sugar’s Phillip Wokorach converted to give Uganda a full score.

The loss means Uganda is set to meet with Zimbabwe later in the day in the Bowl quarter finals for a place in the last 4 of the Bowl Championship. Uganda and Zimbabwe played the finale of Rugby Africa 7s last year in Kampala, with Uganda causing a late upset through the solid rummaging of Michael Wokorach and speed of Adrian Kasito to win the game 10-7 and defend the 7s crown in so doing.
