It was an eventful first weekend of the Uganda Cup and it is safe to say the chaff has been sieved, leaving the cream to advance to the quarters of the Cup, while the losers drop to the shield competition.
Rhinos made a mockery of Soroti Rangers, battering the Easterners 97-00 while Buffaloes eased past an identity-less Impis to win 41-03. Rhinos will host Buffaloes in one of four quarter final games of the Uganda Cup.
The Buffaloes managed to make the semifinals last year only to lose to Heathens in a football score of 3-0. They have since lost many of their stalwarts to Heathens and have had to re-strategize.
“Many errors made. Many new faces. We are trying to gel slowly, and with more games, it only gets better. There is a lot of work to be done in defense and attack obviously. With practice, we will get better,” said Buffaloes Coach Edgar Lemerigar.
Rhinos too have their own sort of issues to deal from administration, management to players roster. They have been taken into rebuilding for the new season having gone through an uncontrollable exodus of players. They could only manage to reach quarter finals last year, losing that game to 2012 Champions, Betway Kobs.
