Easy is the last word that could probably come to mind for the Shell Rimula Rhinos but kudos to them for keeping up the fight regardless of everything that isn’t right in their camp. From shortages in number of players to the exodus of their core stars to the rumors of managerial issues, things are far from good in their camp.
However, Rhinos were able to put up a very stern fight against Heathens last weekend – for a team that had only one substitute at a point in the game, they actually stood their ground and utilized the physicality of their forwards to keep the Hima Heathens working for their 24:00 victory in a game where many thought it would reach the 50 point mark.
The MRI Rams had nearly shocked the Warriors too in the early game of last weekend with scores at 10 all for almost 70 minutes before some individual brilliance pushed the Warriors past the finish line. The bonus that Rams get from this is the revival of the fight in them. Having comfortably beaten the Barbarians and pushed the Warriors to the wire, the Makerere side will be coming into this particular fixture with confidence that they can get the 4 points and if the stars align then they can bag the entire five.
Coach Richard Lumu has assembled a blend of young and old players to create a team that shows promise to become a real title contender in seasons to come provided they keep the group together for some time and one of the things he will be telling his troops is that, this is the best opportunity they will ever have to hurt the Rhinos and they need to take it.
Rhinos will be hoping for this season to end fast as they continue to work out a proper plan of rebuilding the team but first they must ensure that they stay away from relegation and it all starts with victories they need to claim such as this weekend. The senior players; Byron Oketayot, David Otwi, Okello James and Robert Senoga will be key in ensuring that Rhinos see out the season respectfully and hope for sunnier days.
