Jinja Hippos play host to champions elect Black Pirates this weekend by the looks of it, unless the world turned downside up. The new comers welcome Pirates in the local league as rugby returns after a two weeks hiatus.
The swift Jinja boys had a very forgettable visit at Legends when these two first came face-to-face earlier after Pirates made a training session of the match and scored more than a century of points to register the fist game with 100 points or more this season. Pirates ran in at least 15 tries and registered a 102-08 win.
Despite not many results going their way, Hippos have been an entertaining squad and actually had two wins and a loss to show for a busy 7 days not so long ago. They have sprung into whenever the ball has been to inside center as the lanky lad has been their maker of gaps and beater of defenders. Others players to look out for on their not so long list of heroes are Maxwell Ebonga and Meddy Mapeesa who have occasionally switched the kicking duties between themselves on top of scoring some tries for themselves. It is criminal to talk about Hippos and not mention Denis Etwau and John Echeru. These two will be instrumental in trying to keep Pirates governable.
The Buzz sponsored Pirates were made to wait longer for the confirmation of their title win after that unfortunate 3-0 football loss to Rhinos. They go to Jinja with an arsenal that’s without Ivan Magomu and Timothy Kisiga who have gone to represent the nation in the Hong Kong qualifiers and Gold Coast games in April. Nonetheless, with their wealth in firepower in Anguyo, Alema Darious, Wanyama, Massa among others, they should be able to do the job of ensuring the title is theirs.
Different games have born different emotions for the sea robbers this season but this is special. A win in Jinja means the Buzz Pirates are champions of the league even before they play local rivals, Betway Kobs on the last day of the league. They can’t afford to slip up against lower placed opposition like Hippos because Rhinos are lurking in the background ready to pounce at the simplest indication of a fault on Pirates side.
