Pirates too much for Buffaloes in Uganda Cup semi

Defending Champions, Black Pirates were 23-09 winners of Toyota Buffaloes at Legends Rugby Grounds on to advance to their third straight Uganda Cup final appearance.

The Black Pirates were welcoming back Isaac Rujumba from injury, Haruna Muhammad and Isaac Massa from their expedition with the 7s national team in Tunisia and showed real intent and determination when Haruna Muhammad crossed for the first try of the game with barely two minutes gone on the clock. Conrad Wanyama missed the ensuing conversion but would later make up with a penalty to push Pirates lead to 8-0 over Buffaloes.
Buffaloes got on the scoreboard with a penalty for themselves from a long way out through Seguya Wilfred. The Pirates kept pressing and prying but the Buffaloes had an airtight defense that wasn’t about to let anything slip through again. The game went into a break with Pirates leading 8-3.

Conrad Wanyama pushed Pirates lead to 11-03 early in the second half before Seguya again kicked in a penalty for Buffaloes to cut the lead to 11-06. Pirates kept the push going and were soon rewarded through the impetus of Musa Muwonge who got the sea robbers a second try of the day. Wanyama missed the kick and kept the lead of the Pirates at 16-06. Seguya Wilfred was called into action again for Buffaloes as he nailed another penalty to bring the game to 16-09.
Ivan Magomu drilled the final nail in the coffin to thwart any Buffaloes hopes with a last minute try close to the poles, which was converted well to end the game 23-09 in favor of the defending Champions.
With that win, Pirates set up a legends derby in the Uganda Cup final against 2012 Champions Betway Kobs.
