Pirates, Mwamba pre-season fixture called off

Pirates pre-season friendly fixture with Stanbic Mwamba schedule for this weekend has been called off.

The fixture between Pirates and Mwamba was scheduled to happen this weekend, Saturday 28th September 2019 at Black Pirates home in Bweyogerere, Kings Park Arena.

Both Pirates RFC and Mwamba RFC are sponsored by Stanbic Bank with the former finding themselves on the West of the Elgon mountain while Mwamba is on the East end.

The Pirates and Mwamba fixture was canceled due to logistics issues mainly, and there was a stand-off between the two Stanbic Bank branches (Uganda and Kenya) on who should foot and cater to which bills. As there was an impasse, the Kenya Cup side Mwamba has not traveled to Uganda and has since had a change in goalposts.

With the Kenya Cup back in less than a month, all focus for Kulabu is solely on Blak Blad whom they face on the opening weekend. With this in mind, the Nairobi Railway Club based Mwamba will be hosting Impala Saracens’ second-string side as they try to get in shape for Kenya’s premium rugby showpiece.

The Uganda Cup returns in October and the 2017 Champions, Black Pirates, will be looking to avenge their 2018 loss to Betway Kobs and have since been in high preparation for the tourney. It is still unclear whether they have any alternative pre-season fixtures on the cards though.
