Aredo Joseph kicked in 13 points as Betway Kobs beat Hima Cement Heathens 26-21 to go clear top of the table and end the latter’s unbeaten run.
Betway Kobs started the game on the front foot with intent, but the two teams shared a penalty each after 10 minutes thanks to Simon Okwera and Joseph Aredo. Robert Masendi gifted Aredo with a ball and the latter caught the Heathens line sleeping to gain 60 meters on them, before offloading to Ian Munyani who found Edgar Seruwagi to ground for the game’s first try. Aredo converted to push the game to 10-03 in Kobs favor. Ijongat later drilled in a drop goal, and soon, the Kobs were over for their second try after Davis Kiwalabye found acres of space in the Heathens line and grounded. Aredo converted to send the Kobs into half time leading 20-03.
After the break, as was the first half, Simon Okwera and Joseph Aredo exchaged kicks for their respectve teams to push the game to 23-06. Heathens were on the hunt and sooner rather than later, Substitute Cox Muhigwa would go over for Heathens twice and give the visitors some hope even if they failed to convert before Joseph Aredo converted a penalty and push the game further away from Heathens.
At full time, Kobs were 26-21 winners over Heathens, ending their unbeaten run and Aredo Joseph was pronounced Man Of The Match.
Elsewhere, Buffaloes piled more misery on Rhinos beating them 23-10, as warriors survivd a late onslaught from Hippos to win 25-24. Defending champions Pirates were 28-14 winners at House Of Pain at the expense of the Mongers.
