Second placed Betway Kobs host ninth placed Rams as they hope to start off the second round of the Rugby Premiership on a positive note.
They are coming off a forgettable showcase of rugby in a game they lost 28-11 to Pirates, who, on top of losing to them, lost their top spot on the table to them. There may be some light at the end of the tunnel that is this weekend because their opponents (Rams) aren’t in any good form either; worse actually.
The loss to Black Pirates dealt a huge blow in the Blue Army’s hopes of winning the title this season, as they lost top spot as well but that is now supposed to be behind them if they have to move on. Probably using that game as a yardstick to plan for a better round of rugby. In a team that looked to have nothing going for them, Justin Kimono was a standout performer with most carries and meters gained for the Legends Rugby Grounds based team and the Kobs sprinter will hope for an even better game this weekend, and to possibly add to his 8 tries.
Their backline came into question over operation when they lost Davis Kyewalabye early but the scrum half has since shown signs of full recovery and they will hope to have the pint sized engine running the show alongside James Ijongat. Collins Kimbowa, Derrick Tukwasibwe, Simon Makumbi and their forwards colleagues will be expected to have a better game, making rather than missing tackles, pushing their team forward. Rams is probably rated as lowly opposition, and wise as it may seem to unleash the full Kobs arsenal, it would be wiser to give the younger lads like Musoke, Mukwaya extended game time in this weekend.
Up until their surprise win at the expense of the Warriors, Rams were misfiring on all fronts i.e. conceding for fun and not scoring as much. Things don’t seem to be going Coach Joel’s way and their loss at Jinja Hippos was a new low they have hit. They have tried to work with a makeshift squad and it has not yielded that many dividends. Their products tend to come from veterans Kibirige and Lumu who if are neutralized, their entire system starts to disintegrate from within.
It is the perfect game, from Kobs view, to recover from the damning loss last weekend and bounce back with a deluxe win and keep Pirates within their sights.
