On Saturday 3rd, the Kenya Simbas faced Romania side A in a pre – repechage friendly at the Rugby Stadium, Ghancea Sports Complex, Bucharest.
The game certainly didn’t go well for the Simbas as the hosts made five tries in the first half and the Simbas managed only one unconverted try by 7s kingpin and Winger, Willy Ambaka ending the half at 29-5.
The second half was started off with evidently more strength from the hosts who made an early try and had the game ending off 36-5.
The Kenya Simbas took part in this friendly as a preparation for the upcoming repechage tournament that is to kick off on Sunday 11th November. The tournament is to be held at a neutral ground, Stade Delort Mersaille in France.
The repechage tournament this year will be taken part in by Kenya, Germany, Canada and Hong Kong. It will be played slightly different this year as it will be a Round Robin tournament – where teams face each other once(round robin).
The Simbas, who will be flying out of Romania on Wednesday to France for this repechage will first face off Canada on Sunday with hopes to seal off a slot at the 2019 RWC in Japan.
A repechage tournament is the last chance qualification for RWC 2019 where the winner is set to grab the last slot at the 2019 show in Japan.
