Kenya Rugby Union and Stanbic Bank Kenya have this morning entered into a Kshs 9m partnership to have the bankers sponsor the national rugby sevens circuit.
The 20th edition of the sevens circuit, which has been running since 1999 and played over a number of legs shall henceforth be referred to as the Stanbic Bank National 7s Circuit. The reigning champions are Kabras Sugar who have a host of Ugandans in their ranks including Asuman Mugerwa, Phillip Wokorach, Ivan Kirabo, Eliphaz Emong and Pius Ogena. The first leg of this year’s circuit will take place in Nakuru and will culminate in Nairobi in September.
“Today we’re delighted to gather here to celebrate a sport that has put Kenya on the global map and has earned us huge fame and admiration from the rest of the world. Our continued investment is tied to a noble ambition to build rugby from the grassroots level of the game and encouraging even more people to watch and play the sport,” said Charles Mudiwa, the CEO of Stanbic Bank in Kenya at the presser while unveiling the partnership.
Stanbic Bank have been involved in the sport of rugby in Kenya before as they were unveiled as shirt sponsors of Mwamba RFC in March 2017.
