Improvement for Lady Cranes is coming – Lemerigar

There is still so much to come from the Lady Cranes and there is bound to be improvement in the coming game from the ladies according to coach Edgar Lemerigar.

The Lady Cranes suffered an unhealthy 89-05 defeat to the Springboks Women but Coach Edgar Lemerigar plays all that down as a misrepresentation of what his charges have accomplished in a short while.

The Lady Cranes haven’t played a competitive game in a little of more than 4 years, until the Elgon Cup clashes against Kenya in June and July.

“That game (against South Africa ladies) opened up the eyes of so many of the ladies and really exposed us but for the better. We can only work to get better from that game,” said Coach Edgar Lemerigar.

“The ladies are excited about the next one and think they can show up against Kenya as we have played them twice already.”

Uganda and Kenya have come up already against each other in the Elgon Cup with the Lionesses winning both in Kampala and Kisumu to take the bragging rights.

“We have played them and it is a good thing. Every passing game, we expect to see improvement individually, and as a team,”said Coach Lemerigar.

The winner of the tournament will qualify directly for the Women’s Rugby World Cup which will take place in New-Zealand in 2021. The team ranked 2nd at the conclusion of the tournament will play a play-off match against a selected team from South America; the winner of this match will compete in a 4-team global repechage tournament in 2020.
