Heathens beat Pirates to remain unbeaten, as Kobs go top.

Hima Cement Heathens got over second half jitters to beat Black Pirates 18-15 and remain unbeaten as Betway Kobs beat Mulago Rams to go top of the league for the first time since late November.

Black Pirates scored 15 points thanks to tries from Haruna Muhammad, Conrad Wanyama and kicks from Conrad Wanyama, while Heathens had Simon Okwera to thank for two late penalties to win.

Black Pirates were first to get on the board with a Conrad Wanyama penalty. As Pirates came back hunting for more points, Paul Masendi intercepted a pass out wide to race from Heathens 22 up to Pirates try line to give the Heathens their first try in the game and the lead. The Pirates pressure would later yield after Haruna Muhammad sold a dummy, which Heathens bought only for him to find Magomu to his left, who in turn found Conrad to score right below the posts. Heathens weren’t done yet as Masendi found space out wide towards the end of the first half, which Robert Okudi converted to give the hosts a 12-10 half time lead.

After the break, it was the Pirates with the pressure again and a few unsuccessful moves, Magomu kicked Haruna Muhmmad into space and the full back grounded for Pirates second try. Ivan Magomu would miss the resulting extras. Nerves setting in, Heathens got two late penalties and as cool as they come, Simon Okwera, Heathens 4th kicker of the day, kicked them both in to give the hosts the lead, and at full time whistle, a 18-15 win.
