Hima Cement Heathens were 20-09 away winners against the DusuPay Warriors to stay on top of the Uganda Rugby Premiership at the end of the first round.
Veteran Chris Lubanga opened the scoring when he directed his penalty right in the middle of the posts to give the visiting Heathens a 3-0 lead. Nelson Mandela proved he was up to the kicking tasks too, when he kicked in two penalties for the Warriors to put them in a 6-3 lead. Chris Lubanga kicked in another penalty for Heathens to draw the not so eventful game and send both teams into the break at level-pegging.
Heathens started the second period with more gusto, forcing the Warriors majorly on the defensive and in their own half. In that time, the hosts lost Philip Muhoozi to a yellow card after cynical play. Nyeko would go on to miss a penalty opportunity which would put Warriors in the lead, and the pressure mounted on the hosts, who later gave away a penalty try putting Heathens on top. Mandela Nelson tried to cut the lead with a penalty, but Cox Muhigwa was perfectly at the end of a bullish maul which saw him go over for Heathens try. Chris Lubanga converted to push the game to 20-09 and make sure the visitors were on top at full time.
Regardless of the Kobs result, Heathens were assured of staying to after that win. Nonetheless, a bonus point win from the Kobs would cut the lead to just one point, and that is what happened. After Rhinos opened the scoring in the first five minutes of the game with a penalty, Kobs took over the scoring responsibilities, scoring three tries through Joseph Aredo, Musoke and James Ijongat to earn the bonus point.
The Pirates ship could finally be awake after another dominating display against the Rams at Makerere that saw them score 10 tries and win 66-00 to cement third position after a third straight loss for the Warriors.
