Pirates’ Nathan Bwambale and Edgar Pajob join Paul Ssekatte, Ian Munyani and Simon Olet as the freshest faces of the Rugby Cranes squad that was named this morning at a press conference at Legends Rugby Grounds, a side that sees a new captain Asuman Mugerwa take the ranks for his first international cap, assisted by Kobs’ sprinter, Justine Kimono.
Despite earlier scares, Phillip Wokorach has made the squad too, alongside Pius Ogena, Aaron Ofoiwroth, Adrian Kasiito and Ivan Magomu who are in line to travel to San Francisco for the Rugby Sevens.
Hima Cement Heathens veterans Alex Mubiru and Chris Lubanga are the missing suspects alongside Arthur Mukama and Kobs’ Collin Kimbowa. Cranes skippers Michael Wokorach and Brian Odong will miss out too owing to injuries, with the latter having undergone a surgery about a month ago. There are familiar faces in the squad to the pleasure of the fans, with Marvin odong and Brian Asaba set to reinforce the back row.
The team has a plethora of lads who ply their trade in Kenya and they will be going up against players they have played with and against in the recently concluded Kenya Cup. Kabras is represented with 5 players, while Quins and Nondies have one each.
Uganda lost the Elgon Cup last year to Kenya 56-51 on aggregate, losing 23-18 at home before drawing 33-33 in Kenya. The two teams will face off again in July in Kenya for the second game of this year’s Gold Cup, which will double as the second leg of the Elgon Cup.
After the game against Kenya, the Cranes will rest for a month before resuming the Gold Cup with three home games.
