The Black Pearls have made a habit of emulating the indomitable nature of the Black Pirates as the ladies once again ended the weekend on top. By Coronation 7s end, the Pearls reigned transcendent, ahead of their competitors.
With four ladies teams participating, each of the teams was to play three games, with an assurance of playing the other three teams by day’s end.
Emily Lekuru’s quickness got her and Pearls two tries in their first game, complemented by two Mufuwa conversions to claim maximum points against a resilient Blank Panthers to win 14-07. Black Pearls were back in action against Entebbe and emerged 29-12 winners thanks to three Lekuru tries, a try a piece from Mufuwa Immaculate and Mary Ayot. The Black Pearls kicked in two conversions thanks to Mufuwa and Lekuru.
Their hardest test was their last game of the day as they came up against Samiya Ayikoru’s Thunderbirds. Thunderbirds led at the break through the reigning Women’s rugby player of the year, Samiya Ayikoru, but bounced back after the break to draw the game thanks to Immaculate Mufuwa.
