The 6 times champions City Oilers will be in action Friday evening against 5 times champions Betway Power and the Oilers will be looking forward to retain the championship and become the best team ever in the National Basketball League with 7 championships.
Oilers and Power faced off in the last season opening game and Power managed to edge the Oilers 64-56 with Steven Wundi putting up a 15 points game high.
Last season Power had the best record and registered 19 victories and lost 3 games only in the regular season thou they split the season series one a piece with the Oilers.
City Oilers didn’t bring in new players but managed to maintain the core of their championship team with players like Jimmy Enabu who is the soul of the club, Landry Ndikumana who was the regular season MVP scoring over 442 points in the entire season, James Okello playoffs MVP and they’re ready to do whatever it takes to retain the championship.
For the last season’s runner up, Power, they managed to add 3 new experienced players to boost on their roster i.e. Libe Makala who can play both SG and SF positions from JKL Dolphins, Samuel Aguti a SG from KIU Titans plus Syrus Kiviri a guard from Warriors.
Despite recruiting new players, Power also lost players like Micheal Kojjo, Stephen Wundi, Francis Kasinde and Mikel Madol.
It will be interesting to see how both sides will be lining up tomorrow evening when the lights do go off in National League down at MTN Lugogo Indoor stadium. Will Power get the better of Oilers, or will the 6 time consecutive winners prove too strong for the Betway side.
