City Oilers beat Betway Power in league opener

Defending champions, City Oilers, came out on top beating Betway Power 69-66 at the Lugogo MTN Arena on Friday evening at the Men’s league tipped off.

The night was filled with chants of excitement as the two teams stepped onto the floors of the Lugogo MTN Arena on Friday evening ready to open up the 2019 National Basketball league with a clash to re-ignite their standing rivalry .

Powers started off on the offensive claiming a lot of impressive plays.They had a point to prove to the champions who seemed to have been lagging behind in the first half of the game making so many uncoordinated moves. Power’s Sam Ogutu made remarkable plays for his debut game with the powers showing that there is a lot that this young man has to offer for his team.The Powers truly dominated the first half of the game.

The third quarter of the game brought a shift in the proceedings as the Oilers unleashed their rookie player Ivan Muhwezi who changed the game completely seeing the Oilers take the lead for the first time in the game. The rookie was voted MVP of the game as his skill ,resolve and his unmatched command of the game did not go unnoticed.This brought the game to a final score of 69-66, with Oilers beating Power which rose memories of the last season as history repeated itself.

Ivan Muhwezi (mvp) contributed the most points for his side with 16 points for the city oilers while Power’s Syrius Kiviiri placed 17 points on the score board.
