Reigning Uganda Premiership champions, Black Pirates have today officially unveiled Stanbic Bank as their new sponsor to the media at little Ritz in Lugogo.
Stanbic Bank and Black Pirates have signed an initial three year deal which will expire in September 2021. The rugby side will have 50 million Ugandan shillings available to them every year of the deal, totaling to UGX 150M. The club will retain their name as Black Pirates, rather than have the bankers as name sponsor.
“As a bank, we are committed to developing young talent with future leadership potential to accelerate career growth. The Black Pirates have done a commendable job in the rugby sport and have been on a steady rise since 2015. The team has shown admirable resilience. Our support goes towards uplifting the youth and we know that the average age of the players is 24 years,” said Sonia Karamagi, Stanbic Bank Marketing Manager.
“We have had our diehards before that is Little Ritz and Buzz. I have to thank our persistent fans too. They should be proud of today as we make history. We are now associated with one of the biggest in the land,” said Edmund Owor, the club’s chairperson , a former winger.
At the end of it, Black Pirates unveiled a new kit for the season, two different strips with red to be worn on away games as black and grey will be worn for home games.
“The Black Pirates are a force to reckon with and are therefore a right pick. We have secured kits for the players which we are proud to unveil today,” said Sonia Karamagi.
“This sponsorship that we have right now is very formidable for us. It is big motivation for us and what we have been working for. We have been working in the gutters before and now our efforts have yielded results. We thank Stanbic Bank for coming on board and we shall work not to disappoint them. Of course we shall not disappoint them. This is very big motivation and I am very excited and so is every player,” said Conrad Wanyama, Pirates’s vice captain.
