Week 6 of the Ugandan Rugby Premiership sets up a mouth watering derby in Jinja between new boys Walukuba Barbarians and Jinja Hippos at the Abel Dhaira Memorial Stadium
On top of it being a local town derby, it is a going to be a game between the only two sides without a win this season and have conceded the most points thus far. Jinja Hippos earned their promotion in 2017 and stayed up at the end of the calendar in 2018 after shocking many teams while Walukuba Barbarians were just recently promoted after beating Western Titans in the shield final.
“Saturday’s game against Walukuba is going to be tough one because all of us are win-less but I believe I have prepared the boys well to win this game,” said Coach Saidi of the Jinja Hippos.
Despite having better points difference, Hippos are the only team in the Ugandan Rugby Premiership yet to rack up any points while Barbarians are the proud owners of one points earned against Rams after losing within the margin of seven points.
“Yes, it’s a derby and you all know what a derby is. Neither of the teams would love to lose. It is all about the city pride,” said Coach Leonard Lubambula of the Walukuba Barbarians.
“I can only say my boys have been improving in every game whatever the scores at the end of that game. I do have the confidence they want the win and will get it.”
Barbarians had a tough trip to Kyadondo last week losing 61-06 to the Toyota Buffaloes while Jinja Hippos lost in their own backyard, 50-03 to defending Champions, Black Pirates.
All roads lead to Abel Dhaira Memorial Stadium this Saturday for a late afternoon of rugby between the first ever Ugandan Rugby Premiership clash between Jinja Hippos and Walukuba Barbarians with bragging rights of Stone City on the line.
