Barbarians fighting to the death as Hippos seek derby vengeance

Story courtesy of Wako David

2nd March 2019 will be the day that the second Jinja Derby of the season is played – pitting two teams with different goals for the season against each other. The hosts; Jinja Hippos will want to end it on a high as they play their final home game at Dam waters against city rivals; Walukuba Babarians, who sit bottom of the league, trying to fight their way out of relegation.

In the past weeks, the Hippos have been a sensation to watch bar the clobbering they received at the hands of the Pirates when they visited Kings Park. Their last home encounter against the Dusupay Warriors saw them fall short by a single point and will want to revive that fight when they meet the Barbarians, and hopefully be on the right end of the score sheet this time round.

Action from the first round that the Barbarians won

Squad rotation has been effected by the Hippos coaches who chose to rest a few players due to high workloads as well as losing a few to injury – “We are looking for retribution, we lost in our first encounter last year against Walukuba and we are hoping to reclaim the city” Hippos Coach Saidi states.

A number of players are back training this week such as Ochen Jacob who missed the action against Black Pirates, he aims to regain fitness ahead of this mouth watering eastern clash. Johnson Baiga is also hoping to return to full training soon enough in a bid to make fitness in time for the derby.

Baiga returns

Barbarians have one thing on their minds;  survival – with time running out, something’s got to give however things don’t seem to be going according to plan. This being the side’s first season in the top flight, the only positive they have to show so far is a win against Hippos and will want to replicate such fortunes tomorrow.

“we are taking the game to them, we shall fight to very end of the game” Denis Wakate (Walukuba Captain) assures the press. Barbarians have been missing a couple of important names in their set up, who are back in time for this one, with coach Leonard Lubambula more than happy them back as he maps out the master plan for another emphatic Barbarians victory. Mr. versatile Alex Atuhaire and Wakate Denis will hope to inspire the side to a second win as they target to leapfrog Rams.

With everything out to play for, we surely know this is an encounter worth looking out for.
