Ahead of the Rugby World Cup Sevens to happen in San Francisco on 20th to 22nd July, Sir Gordon Tietjens has named his squad to represent the nation of Samoa.
The 2016 Paris 7s champions face off with the back-to-back Africa 7 champions, Uganda, in a pre round of 16 tie to determine who advances and who gets relegated. The winner (between Samoa and Uganda) will take on England in the round of 16, to determine who will make the Championship of the World Cup. The loser from the preliminary round will be seeded to participate in the Bowl Challenge, while the loser of the round of 16 tie against England will be relegated to the Challenge competition.
“The boys had been subjected to a lot of intense training and I am proud of how they have all handled it. Unfortunately, we cannot pick all of them. We cannot also promise anything but rest assured that we will give it our all come game day,” said a proud Sir Gordon Tietjens to the Samoa Observer.
Darren Kellet-Moore, Lafaele Va’a, Elisapeta Alofipo, Tila Mealoi and Samoa Toloa miss out due to injury.
