This year’s men’s Africa 7s tournament which doubles as the 2020 Tokyo Olympics qualifier will take place in November in South Africa.
The men will compete for a place in the Tokyo Olympics from 8th-9th November in South Africa as announced earlier today.
Uganda were back-to-back Africa 7s champions in 2016 and 2017 but finished last year’s competition held in Tunisia in third position, having beaten Madagascar 24-19 in the third place playoff thanks to a late Kasito Adrian try.
The contest will be between Zimbabwe, Kenya, Uganda, Madagascar, Zambia, Tunisia, Senegal, Morocco, Namibia, Ghana, Botswana, Mauritius, Côte d’Ivoire and Nigeria as we wait for the World Series results to include or not South Africa and then possibly Burkina Faso.
South Africa, who are currently fourth on HSBC World Series log, will qualify automatically for the Olympics in Tokyo if they maintain that position or go higher, but will be included in the Africa 7s roster if they fall to 5th or below.
Uganda have just returned to Africa from participating in the HSBC World 7s Series Qualifeirs in Hong Kong, after failing to make it out of the group stages.
